Fade away/wane

Hello,
Can both verbs be used this way: "Her enthusiasm was waning rapidly/fading away"?
Can "fade away" also be used in contexts, in which a feeling, influence become weaker or something/someone becomes less famous? Can we say "His love for her faded away over the years." It doesn't sound too bad to me. I would use wane or wear off in this sentence, though.

  • In fact, "faded away" sounds better than "wore off" or "waned" in that sentence.

Does that mean that wane and wear off don't suit the context? If so, why not?
