Factor

The lack of a balanced diet is a factor for cancer.

The lack of a balanced diet is a factor in the development of cancer.

Are they both acceptable? Can I use 'in' instead of 'for' in the first sentence?

I agree with Philip that this one is better, but I just want to add that it is also quite common to say 'risk factor' instead of just 'factor'.

Thank you,Philip and CalifJim.

I just have a minor confusion with the word factor. When you say,

Success factor of business Or

Success factor for business?

Same thing with cancer.

Can they be used interchangeably?

We don't say either one of these. I'm not familiar with 'success factor', and certainly not with 'success factor for cancer'.
