Face time calls: Correct way of introducing yourself

So in regular phone calls we use ’this’ in order to refer to ourselves: Hello, this is Ben. Does the same rule apply in video calls (such face time)?

If they already know you, you don't need to say anything of the sort because they can see you. People sometimes say "Hello, it's me" in that case. If they do not know you, "this is" would sound strange, now that you mention it.
