Eyes

I was his mother's father, but in him I saw mainly signs of his father's family?my daughter's eyes, perhaps, which, while not my own, seemed reminiscent of others in my family.

I'm kind of confused by the 'my daughter's eyes' part. Is it something like this?

I saw mainly signs of his father's family, but I also saw my daughter's eyes, perhaps, which, while not my own, seemed reminiscent of others in my family.

Or is it something else?
