Eye-blearing, well up

Hi everyone,

1) She woke up at the eye-blearing time of 6 am.

What does 'eye-blearing' mean exactly? 'Bleared eyes' mean 'weary', right? I suppose that it was used in the sentence to emphasize the early hour.

2) I welled up over the book that he gave me before we broke up.

Do people sometimes say 'well up' these days instead of 'cry' or is it considered outdated?

3) My dog was spread out in the middle of the bed and I was left teetering on the edge.

Can 'teeter' be used in this example?

Thank you.
