Extemporaneous

Hi,

I watched a video clip of a fan convention, where an actor used the word 'extemporaneous'.

Is this a word that the audience (fans) should know? I would guess the average age of the group to be 20-odd.

(the word is said at 0:17)

My dictionary says the word is 'formal'. Is the occasional use of formal words in an informal setting common?
Would you expect to hear such a word in everyday conversations?
Would you think the use of this word was an attempt at humour?

Also, can you discern which word is said at 0:35? I heard "I'm very method about", which does not make much sense to me.

At 3:33, he said "I didn't see __, even." What is the word? I think it sounds like scat.

From 3:26 to 3:30, he said "I thought the roads were gonna be littered with kangaroos ..."

What were the words that followed?

Thank you very much
