Expression or feelings

Hi

This is on the poem Ozymandias.

The sculptor was able to understand Ozymandias'...............

a) words

b) expression

c) feelings

d) ambition

I think the answer is C ( I based the answer taking the cue from the lines-" Tell that its sculptor well those passions (Ozymandias' passions) read...."

My question: Can 'b' be the answer based on a plausible reason?

Multiple-choice tests are tricky. You have to pick the one best answer out of the choices. Several or all of the choices might be plausible under certain circumstances, but you have to pick one answer only, the best one that fits the question.

  • Here, all four answers might be plausible: the sculptor might have carefully read Ozymandias' words (in fact, there are Ozymandias' own words stamped on the sculpture), expression (the sculpture captures Ozymandias' typical scowl), feelings (the poem seems to imply that the sculptor reproduced Ozymandias' feelings in the sculpture), and ambition (Ozymandias certainly was ambitious, as evidenced by the sculpture and the words stamped on it) in order to have captured the essence of him in his sculpture.
  • So this is a tough choice, all four are plausible.

You can argue this question in several ways, and I believe you can make a plausible case for b. The sculptor would have had to understand the feelings behind the expression he saw on Ozymandias' face in order to mimic them so well in the statue he cre
