Expression of purpose : to or for ?

Hello everyoneEmotion: smile

Could anyone tell me the difference between to and for when it comes to expressing purpose with a verb ? I read on a website that the "for " structure had to be used to express the purpose of things and objects, still a sentence such as " I bought another server for storing addional data" sounds awkward to me (I would naturally say "to store additional data").

Could anyone shed light on this ? I would be very grateful.

Thank you.
