Expression: In the know

Hi

Would you say that the idiom in the know sounds natural in everyday English?

  1. I wasn't in the know of the whole matter.
  2. Is the president in the know?

Thanks,

Tom

No. You can't be in the know of anything.

Mr. TomIs the president in the know?

Yes, but it has a certain Humphrey Bogart air about it.

The expression itself is natural, but we don't say "in the know of ~", so (1) isn't right. (2) is OK.
