Expressing reason in the negative - not to?

I've come across an explanation in a Grammar book indicating NOT TO should be avoided in favor for SO AS NOT TO or IN ORDER NOT TO, instead. Is that correct?

The following wouldn't sound unnatural to me: "I'm taking all necessary precautions now NOT TO have any future problems"
