Expresioms of time, money and distance

hello..........

i just want to know which the right answer for these both examples:

1. ten minutes are/is left

2. the distance betweemn A and B is/are 19 km.

I heared that expressions of time , money and distance should be dealt with as singular nouns.

Many thanks to you
