Expose(chess)

Hi.

It reads:

"Your first defense against weak pawns iss to avoid exposing them."

What does 'expose' mean? And How does it differ from 'create'?

Thanks in advance!

In chess, exposing a piece means to leave it open to attack. Expose and create are very different words, did you check your dictionary?

Creating a **** makes no sense in this context.

Create: To make, to manufacture, etc.

You can rewrite the sentence if you want to use "create", but as written, "exposing them" means "exposing pawns". You have to connect the pronoun to the noun it replaces.
