How do we handle expletives (cusswords)? Do we use hyphens or asterisks? What's the trend or preference here?

I wouldn't really say there is a trend or standard. Most people seldom need to write such things.
Anyway, we live in such increasingly permissive times that many such words are often simply written out in full.
