Expletives

How do we handle expletives (cusswords)? Do we use hyphens or asterisks? What's the trend or preference here?

He told me to go f **k off!
He told me to go f--k off!

He called me an a **hole!
He called me an a--hole!

Jack called him a d **khead!
Jack called him a d--khead!

Thanks.

Hi, Both methods are used,as you know. I wouldn't really say there is a trend or standard. Most people seldom need to write such things.
