Explanations for 'What's your job?'

Hi teachers,
Would the below questions work as an explanation for, 'What's your job? / What do you do?'
a) What's your occupation?
b) What's your profession?

How can I differentiate 'What do you do?' asking for 'a person's normal way of earning a livelihood' and just asking for an action? Is it just because of the context?

Thanks in advance.

What do you do? is the usual, idiomatic way of asking what a person does for a living. What’s your job? has the same meaning, but we don’t say

Tenacious Learner just asking for an action?
I presume that you are looking for 'What are you doing?'
Or do you mean something on the order of 'What do you do (e.g., when you come to an intersection)?'

Hi Mister Micawber,
I never thought about this one, 'What do you do (e.g., when you come to an intersection)?'
I presume that If I ask for an action in the Simple Present, it should be for example, 'What do you do after work?'
'What do you do?' alone doesn't make sense except in examples like the one you have given me.
