Explanation on adverbs
Hi teachers,
I've found this explanation and what puzzles me is the word 'everything'. Is it really appropriate for it?
Adverbs are words that modify everything but nouns and pronouns. They modify adjectives, verbs, and other adverbs. A word is an adverb if it answers how, when, or where.

As a very broad outline, it's not too bad. Can I suggest this one instead?:
"Adverbs characteristically modify verbs and other categories except nouns, especially adjectives and adverbs".
I use the word "characteristically" because, first, not all adverbs can modify those categories and, second, some adverbs can also modify nouns (though not often).
