Explaining what a participle is and used for

Would you say this is an accurate description of what a participle is, how it is used, and what makes it different from tense?

“A participle is the form of a verb that can be used adjectively to describe someone or something OR it can be used in conjunction with another helping/auxiliary to show passive or perfect tense function. Normal, or simple, tenses of verbs are not considered participle, even when they may take on the same form (e.g “finished”).”
