Explaining learning process

Dear all,
I'm writing my dissertation and wanted to describe the learning process of the students. I wanted to include the following idea but I don't know how to express that in proper English so that it suits the report. I feel my English is too simple.please help me. the paragraph is as follows

"Students are exposed to the subject during the lecture. They are free to ask questions and clarify the subject matter. During the tutorial session they can assess themselves by working out problems. Students get in to groups and discuss the subject related problems. They get further help by referring library books and online resources. Past papers are available in the library so most students practice them before the exam."

Thank you
