Why can you say: My time is almost up.

But not: my visa is almost up.

Up doesn't mean expired, except in the phrase you mentioned (and possibly a few others). time is up is an idiomatic expression and (the pattern/structure of) such expressions shouldn't normally be used to create new phrases/sentences (like the one you did)
