expire?

Public libraries sometimes sell books they want to get rid of in very low price. These books are old books. Can they also be called "expired books" ?

Top answer

I'm not certain the word "expire" applies to these books. Expire means: to die, to come to an end or to lose validity. Licences, Passports, Medicines, Humans, Condoms, Candy Bars and many other things expire.
