Could you tell me if this rant is naturally written? And give me your take on the question?

I've never understood something about food expiration dates.
Does the food slowly go bad and by the time the expiration date hits, it's no longer good, or is the food good until the expiration date at which time it no longer is. Does the food bad over time or is it good one day and bad the next?

There's something I've never understood about food expiration dates. Does the food slowly go bad, and by the time the expiration date hits, it's no longer good? Or is the food good until the expiration date, at which time it suddenly goes bad. Does the food go bad over time, or is it good one day and bad the next?

Canned goods are safe to eat for many years. There is even a case where a 100-year-old can was opened and tested, and the contents were perfectly safe to eat. The taste was pretty awful, though. The expiration date on canned and packaged foods most often indicates that the quality of the food cannot be guaranteed after that date. It might not taste as good as if you had eaten it before the expiration date, but it doesn't mean you'll get sick if you eat it after the expiration date. Unpackaged items like meat and eggs are different, but in that case, if you keep them too long before using them, the smell will tell you that they are unsafe to eat!

(I've never heard of a case where something goes bad suddenly. The deterioration of organic materials is always a gradual process.)

Let say I bought yoghurt 3 weeks ago. The expiration date is tomorrow. Would you say that the yoghurt is as good one day before the expiration date as it was when I first bought it 3 weeks ago. Or would you say that it was 'better' 3 weeks ago than it is one day before the expiration date?
Would you use the term 'better?
