Good Evening!!

Is there any difference between "experimentation" and "experimenting"?

For instance:
1. Experimenting on mice can give us an idea of the effect of the disease in humans.

2. Experimentation on mice can give us an idea of the effect of the disease in humans.

Another question is whether the zero article in front of the manager below is correct.

When I took on the job of manager, I inherited certain financial problems.
