Experimentation

Hello all,
+ I'd like to get your opinion please; can I use the word "Experimentation " in an IT context? (for example, Exprimentation of a software)
+ Can I call the enterprise, in which I did my internship, the "host" company ? or is there a more convenient compound noun?

Best Regards.
