expedite the delivery on time

"In the past, the good buyers were those who could expedite the delivery on time."

Is the above sentence OK? How about?

"In the past, good buyers were those who had the ability to press the suppliers to deliver the goods as soon as possible." (This is what is meant. Does the first one work?)

Thank you.

Hi, couple of points for you: Delivery on time is not the same thing as 'as soon as possible'. For example, if you are responsible for buying for a large project you need everything arriving exactly when it is needed, not all at the same time just after ordering. It seems strange to link buyers with expedite - that would be more a virtue of the supplier.
