Expected to have met

1 I expected to have met him last night; he didn't show up.

2 I expected to meet him last night ; he didn't show up.

3 I had expected to meet him last night; he didn't show up.

Any difference among the above 3 sentences?

Thanks.

Only that #2 is the most common of the 3 versions, in my opinion. More likely connection than via a semi-colon is via a period/New sentence, or a 'but'.
