Vocabulary

Expected or foreseen

Hello everyone,

I would like to know which word is better when talking about the use of a machine:

a) foreseen uses

b) expected uses

"The use of the machine in order to work with other materials or to obtain production values higher than the foreseen limits is considered as an IMPROPER USE". (this is a translation of my own, so feel free to correct any mistake).

Thank you for your help.

You're asking about "foreseen/expected uses ", yet the text says "foreseen limits ". Which is it? I don't understand what you mean by "production values".

  • It's hard to see how higher production values would not always be a good thing, or why you would ever want to limit them.

Mr Wordy, thank you for your help.

I translated the sentence from Spanish to English. I chose foreseen uses but I don't know if that's correct. What would a native speaker say? Would you say "foreseen use" or "expected use"? or maybe both indistinctly?

Regarding "production values" I tried to refer to the process of making goods to be sold. Is there another word to express that

You asked about "foreseen uses", and you may have intended to write "foreseen uses", but if you look back at your post you will see that you actually wrote "foreseen limits". Your question was unclear in this respect, which is why I

That's right, I wrote foreseen limits in the sentence. Sorry about that, I think I'm confusing you.

Let's see... FORESEEN USES (it is the title of a paragraph). Immediately after that comes:

"The machine will not be used for different functions from those specified in the sales contract"

Then an new section appears which is UNFORESEEN OR IMPROPER USES

The machine must not be used for purposes other than those specified in the sales contract.

...

It is considered IMPROPER USE:
- To work with types of boxes other than those for which the machine is intended.

- To produce quantities greater than the foreseen production limits.

In order for this regulation to be meaningfully enforceable, it must somewhere be
