Expect vs. Expects - please help :-)!

Hi everybody,

Please could somebody tell me whether the extract below should use 'expect' or 'expects'.

I think it should use 'expects' as it only refers to one society, but I wanted to check with the experts :-)

The Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders expect/expects(?)...

Thanks in advance!

  • If you perceive 'society' as an entity use 'expects'.
  • Use 'are' if you view 'society' as consisting of the people involved in the society.
