What do you think about:

Who do you want to win?

Shouldn't it be Who do you want to see win.

If you replace win with kill

You get "who do you want to kill?" I want to kill him.

Who do you want to win? I want to win him That doesn't work.

So 'see' is necessary. is it not?

The "see" is optional.

I want him to win.
Whom do you want to win?
I want to see him win.
Whom do you want to see win?
Whom do you want to beat?
I want to beat him.
Whom do you want to see?
I want to see him.

These are two completely different structures:
I want to kill him.
I want to see him (to) win. (I want to see him killed.)
