Excuse me, what is the difference between them?

"They wouldn't let us go." and "They didn't let us go."

"They wouldn't let us go." ie They were unwilling to let us go.

"They didn't let us go." This just states a simple fact about the past. Maybe they were unwilling to let us go. Maybe they were willing to let us go, but they had lost the key to our cell. We don't know.
