Excoriating it ridiculed hundreds of years of history of cell biology?

Does "excoriating it ridiculed hundreds of years of history of cell biology" mean "reproaching that the Obokata's article had ridiculed hundreds of years of history of cell biology"?

Context:

It is reported in Japan that Nature dismissed Obokata’s article submitted last spring, excoriating it ridiculed hundreds of years of history of cell biology. I wonder if this is true.
