Imperative sentences do not have to have the infinitive as a verb, in fact, I can't think of an instance when one would. This is an imperative sentence because it gives a command. Archers, draw!

Somebody does take a singular verb, but,"Please, somebody, helps me," just doesn't sound correct. I hope someone else weighs in with the definitive answer to this one! The logic is escaping me at the moment.

Hi,

"Please, somebody, help me" is an imperative. It's just a fancier way of saying 'Help me!'

.

It's like saying 'Please! Somebody! Help me!'

Thanks, Clive. I knew "helps" was wrong, but didn't remember that in the imperative, somebody can take a plural verb. Fortunately, one's ear often guides one's speech and writing beyond one's technical grammatical knowledge!
