My opinion: I think you can use exclamation mark in every kind of sentence in which you want to add your "emotion" in the sentence. You can even add exclamation mark in question sentence. )

My opinion:

I think you can use exclamation mark in every kind of sentence in which you want to add your "emotion" in the sentence.

You can even add exclamation mark in question sentence. For example: Is it true?(!)

What a difficult question!

First of all, it is not necessary to use exclamation marks at all and some would say it is better not to, so don't worry too much about them. When they are used it is for emphasis. Sentences with exclamation marks are more emphatic than the same sentences without.

This is a point noone actually told me at school - in German however, exclamation marks are commonly used, also for those sentences you'd never use one in English. Often we use more than one exclammation mark, too.
