Exclaimation Mark

Hi, I was just wondering if this piece of speech would read better if I second exclamation mark was used? Or should I remove the "he cried" from the middle, and make it one longer piece of speech?

“Please forgive me!” he cried. “I only wanted to protect you.”

Thanks in advance!

Your sentence is correctly punctuated, but 'Thanks in advance!' is not.
