Excited

I was excited about the news until I've seen what it was. Or

I was excited about the news until I saw what it was.

What's the difference between the two and do they mean the same things?

Thanks again.

The first sentence is not correct because it mixes verb tenses; past tense was excited plus the present participle have seen. That does not agree. The second sentence is correct because the bases of both verbs, was excited and saw, are simple past tense.
