1) Examples of past simple tense in Affirmative/positive sentences:
- She went to the market yesterday.
- Tim left his office at 5 yesterday.

2) Examples of past simple tense in Negative sentences.
- She didn't ('did not' is often shortened to 'didn't') go to the market yesterday.
- Tim didn't (or did not) leave his office at 5 yesterday.

3) Examples of past simple tense in Interrogative sentences: (Note the position of the subject and the auxiliary 'did'. The auxiliary verb comes before the subject when forming an interrogative sentence.)
- Did she go to the market yesterday?
- When / At what time did Tim leave his office yesterday? (Interrogative sentence with a 'wh-word' word)

4) Examples of past simple tense in Interrogative-negative sentences:
- Did she not go to the market yesterday? (Also, Didn't she go to the market yesterday?)
- Did Tim not leave his office at 5 yesterday? (Also, Didn't Tim leave his office at 5 yesterday?)

Note: You may have noticed that we need the auxiliary verb 'did' when we form interrogative sentences (questions) or negative sentences, not when we make positive/affirmative sentences in past simple. However, we can also use this auxiliary 'did' when emphasizing something. For ex She did go there yesterday. (The sentence is affirmative/positive. The main verb is 'go', but 'did' is used just to give an emphatic meaning to the sentence.)
