Examine Our Mind/Minds
Dear teachers,
I have a question concerning the following sentence:
1. We should, as wise people often say, examine our mind/minds all the time.
In the above sentence, should it be "mind" or "minds"? Although logic dictates that as the referent is plural, it should, therefore, be "minds", I think it can be "mind", as it collectively refers to the "minds" of people. (Am I right?)
If I use the plural, I encounter a problem when I expand the sentence with more information:
2. We should, as wise people often say, examine our minds all the time, closely watching everything that they do.
"they", here, does not sound right to me. I am, therefore, confused.
