Examine

Hi everyone,

When I go to an oral exam I draw a question from a packet that is prepared on the table. The professor then starts asking me questions. What verb would be used to desribe it? I find the word 'examine' a bit strange in this context.

And let's imagine that my friend asked me what the name of the professor was. What could I say if I wanted to omit the word 'office'?

"I took the exam at Mr. John's office." I'm a bit lost in terms of finding the right word. I want to include the word 'exam' though.

I hope I've expressed my thoughts right so you could understand what I have in mind. Thank you for your help!

If it's clear that the exam is an oral exam, then you might say, for example: The professor tests me (orally) based on the question I selected. For the second one, you might say, for example: I took the exam in Professor Smith's classroom.
