Exactly what does ed or ing imply at the end of a word?

0 I am in a debate as to the use of the word recovered and recovering. I have a chronic, progressive disease that there is no cure for, yet some people insist that they recovered, even though the disease has only been arrested. Quit franking I am talking about alcoholism. There is a big debate among members as to which word to use because (I believe incorrectly) the word recovered is used in the basic text of AA. 0-

0 I thought the whole point of AA was to emphasize that a person can never be said to have recovered from alcoholism. One is always on the way toward recovery, that is, always recovering.02br
