exact meaning of Past continuous + Present perfect

If I want express this:

Past: Present:

action A
|------------------|
^- action B ------------------------> B is still true now (A not)

Example: (A = repairing, B = be curious)

When I was repairing a car I have been curious how its engine works. (Now I am standing in front of a serviceman and I want to know how the engine works.)

Is that exactly what does a combination Past continuous + Present perfect say? Thanks!
