Evoke/provoke?

I'm writing an essay on "A Streetcar Named Desire". In this sentence which word should I use:

Throughout the play, she evokes/provokes both frustration and pathos in the audience, but inexorably her tale must end in tragedy.

As Mister Micawber says, use 'evokes'.

Evoke means to summon or stir up within, whereas provoke means to goad somebody or something into action.
