Everyone waits for you now

Everyone is watching you now
Everyone waits for you now
What happens next?
What happens next?

This is a part of lyrics and I was wondering if "waits for you now" is okay? I think that "Everyone is waiting for you now" is grammatically correct. Or is there a reason? What do you native English speakers think? Thank you so much as usual and have a good day.
