everyday ...present tense

0I've learned that sentences with everyday must be in present tense. Is it true? Below is a sentence from CNN that violates the rule:02br
02br
00Authorities have dispatched more than 10,000 riot police everyday to keep the peace, Yonhap said. Demonstrators began a 72-hour protest Thursday night.02br

01. Yes. I keep making this mistake. I agree with you that it should be every day which means CNN is wrong. 05000 I guess people make mistakes.02br

002. and 3 I'm sorry.( Another failure to express my thoughts.) I wanted to say every day should be used in simple tense. 010id6

0Regarding every day and everyday, I wouldn't worry too much. I think "everyday" is more common in the US, but it's one of those things that even natives struggle with!0-

0 Hi,02br
00I think you might be confusing that rule (which doesn't exist) with the rule of thumb that says "the simple present is often used when talking about habitual actions and common processes", and you might have been confused by the examples given, which often include "every day" to give an example of an habitual action:02br

00It is also very easy to think that websites such as CNN and the BBC (in the UK) never make mistakes with their grammar; however, they are human just like the rest of us!0-

0Only the spelling is wrong. There are no problems with verb tenses, as I said in my other post. So in your example it should be written separately, "every day". 050010id1

0 I agree. You can use 'every day' with lots of tenses. In fact, I'm having trouble of thinking of any tense with which 'every day' cannot be used. 0-
