Every other weekend thing

- I do have a much better relationship with my mother. My parents split when I was 2 and I haven't seen much of my dad. I did the every other weekend thing while I was a kid. But as I grew up and started to have a life I drove the 2 hours to visit him less and less. He's also an alcoholic and has ruined a lot things for me and I resent him for that. I'm closer to my step-dad who has been in my life more than my real dad.

- "I haven't seen much of my dad" here means "I haven't seen my dad much", right? By the way, what does "I did the every other weekend thing" mean in this context? It seems unclear to me Emotion: smile

Thanks a lot to Teachers,

I did the every other weekend thing while I was a kid. When the parents are divorced/separated, each parent usually gets to spend every other weekend with their kid(s). This is considered fair and is possibly best for the kid(s).

At longer intervals.

I used to go every week. Then I started to go every other week. Later it was once a month. Now it's only twice a year. All this = less and less.
