Every other vs every second

Hi,

Please read:

1. Every other girl except me is wearing jeans.

2. Every second girl except me is wearing jeans.

Both are correct and have the same meaning? If not, what is the wrong sentence?

In (1), "every other girl" means "all the other girls". However, there is an idiomatic use of "every other", meaning "alternate", so "every other day" means "on alternate days". Instead of this you could say "every second day", or "every two days", but you can see that it is not appropriate in the situation given.
