Every one has their own nature so don't be so judgmental

Is the following sentence correct?

Every one has their own nature so don't be so judgmental.

Top answer

Everyone has their own nature so don't be so judgmental. And then, of course, it's the age-old question of whether it's correct to use singular "their". What you have is fine to many people in many contexts, but formally some people would insist on something like: Everyone has his or her own nature so don't be so judgmental.

Yes it's fine. Using "their" in this context goes back several hundred years so don't be talked out of using it. Personally I think saying "he or she" sounds unnatural in everyday speach.

Jackson6612Would it have been wrong if you had used the article an instead of the?

And by the way, is my above question correct grammatically?
Given the way I wrote the sentence, "the" feels significantly better to me, even if "an" is not actually wrong.

The wording of your question is fine.
