Even/ever
"Thank you, Harry. Well, I'd better get going..."
And she hurried off, without ever giving Harry any time to offer words of comfort, though admittedly he could not think of any.
Can somebody tell me something about this choice of “ever” and not “even” ?

It looks as if it should read "even". Previously I think you had "got" for "get", and now possibly "ever" for "even", which look like potential scannos (i.e. someone has scanned the pages from the book and put it through an OCR process).
