Even though

Hi!

As homework I had to make sentences using "even though". Could you check them for me, please?

He got lost, even though he had studied the city map.

I didn’t get into the swing of things, even though I had studied hard.

They didn’t land a job, even though they were well-suited for it.

She had a temporary job, even though she didn’t need it.

We didn’t straight up the room even though, it was a mess.

You worked as a messenger boy, even though you hadn’t had any experience.

They didn’t travel, even though they had bought the tickets.

I didn’t take the pictures, even though I had brought the camera.

Anonymous We didn’t straight up the room even though, it was a mess. You have put a comma in the wrong place. None of your sentences really need a comma but I am not saying that using commas is wrong.

  • Anonymous We didn’t straight up the room even though, it was a mess.
  • You have put a comma in the wrong place.
  • None of your sentences really need a comma but I am not saying that using commas is wrong.
  • I think most style guides advise you to drop a comma in short sentences like yours unless the order of the clauses is reversed: Even though he had studied the city map, he got lost.
  • Instead of your version above, I would say: We didn't tidy up the room even though it was a mess.

In addition to what CoolBreeze wrote, I would suggest that you use "the" in this sentence since you seem to be referring to a specific job:

They didn’t land the job even though they

Hello, Cool Breeze

Thanks for your explanation and corrections. But, by the way, isn't straight up correct in the sentence: "We didn't straight up the room even though it was a mess" ? Because straight up is a synonym of tidy up, isn't it?

Thanks again,
Matthew
