Is the below correct? Should it be "even out " instead of "evening"

Ah.
The different pronunciation kept me from thinking about that. With the word "out" I would have been able to "hear" it that way.

I too saw the noun to start with, and then did another double-take at evening out. She decided the dress would be perfect for an evening out on the town.

To address the original question, I suppose evening would work, although as you can see it can cause confusion. Even out might be better.
