i will post the first five paragraphs of this essay
Stewart Alsop was a respected journalist died in 1975 of a rare form of cancer. Alsop did not think about euthanasia or EU before he shared a room with someone he called Jack where he became convinced that EU is morally acceptable. Alsop wrote pitifully about his experience as a terminal patient.
Alsop said that Jack suffered from a constant pain and he “had a melanoma in his belly, malignant solid tumor that the doctors guessed was about the size of softball. The cancer had stated a few…the doctors planned to remove the softball-sized tumor. But they knew Jack would soon die. The cancer had spread beyond control”.
Jack was in permanent pain and his doctors had given him a pain killer every four hours but it never made any difference and he used to begin to "howl like a dog”.
The third night of this horrible situation the terrifying idea occurred to Alsop:” if Jack were a dog” what would be done with him?” the answer was obvious: the pound, and the chloroform.
There is no one" with a spark of pity, says Stewart, who could let a living thing suffer so, to no good idea" (Rachels, 1996.p.363-364).
Jack’s experience indicates that discussing the dimensions of this critical situation and similar ones is very important not only to specialists, such as doctors, lawmakers, moralists, but also to common people. The reason is that every one might find himself involved in this critical case. I believe that killing patients mercifully is permissible. In this article I will define euthanasia showing how it differs from other forms of killing. Then I will identify and formulate the strongest potential objections against euthanasia discussing the defects of these objections. By doing that I will show how they aren't strong enough to refute mercy killing. Finally I will clarify why EU is acceptable. I will support this view by presenting arguments in favour of euthanasia.
