European experience??

Sometimes I wonder if I can say:

1) My brother is always talking about his European experience.

instead of saying

2) My brother is always talking about his experience in Europe.

1) sounds unnatural for me though...
But I cannot explain why it sounds strange when I mean 2).

Yes, you certainly can, but I would use 'experiences'.
