ethyl liquid

Can you please check the blue parts? Thank you.

Due to an increase in octane number, following lead compounds are added to the petrol for engine/motor vehicles and airplanes: tetraethyl lead (TEO) and tetramethyl lead (TMO), in the composition of so called ethyl liquid (the mixture of tetraethyl lead, ethil bromide, monoclornaphtaline and others). Ethyl liquid is added on 1 L of petrol from 6 to 8 mL. The rule is to colour the ethylizied petrol so it can be differentiated from nonethilizied.

  • 1) "Due to an increase" should be "In order to increase the octane number" -- but that is just the opposite meaning?!
  • 2) The abbreviations TEO and TMO are not common and appear strange to me.

This is my version which agrees with your points, Kajjo.

To (in order to) increase the octane number, the following lead compounds are added to the petrol for motor vehicle and airplane engines: tetraethyl lead (TEL) and tetramethyl lead (TML), in a solution of so called ethyl liquid (the mixture of tetraethyl lead, ethyl bromide, monocloronaphthalene and others). Alan.esHowever my experience suggests that 'leaded and unleaded' would be used rather than 'ethylated and non-ethylated'.
I agree with Alan and highly recommend to use "leaded". That is indeed the correct and usual term, now that I see it written... "Ethylated" is a chemical term for a different concept and "ethylised" is just uncommon as ****.

Thank you both for your corrections.

And to answer your question Alan, leaded petrol is no longer used, perhaps one can get some on some petrol stations, but as far as I know, the answer is no. I guess, that means I should replace it with a verb in past tense.

As of ethylised I suppose it is simply a matter of wrong translation and word guessing of the translator who did
